Ancient Cities

Traces of lost and crippled time,

displayed the greatness of your people.

Forgotten dreams and damaged shrines,

evidence of adoration, neglected but truthful.

Breath taking and mystifying metropolis,

picturesque breeds of majestic nations.

More questions asked than answers found,

humming from the sites of excavations.

Stories of legends, myths and tragedies,

relics of the golden age of what was once.

Rhythm of your music are melodies that surrounds,

fragile pieces of memories and reverence.

Ruins, temples, castles, tombs, and monuments,

are envious riches of iconic structures.

Ancient cities are culture’s bewilderment,

glimpses of the past embracing the future.

    Loved the mythical and musical imagery here that hums from the ruins of dead cities….a nostalgic piece.The last line is also powerful.Reminds me of the consciousness of time as universal.I’m mailing u the links.

        @Deeptesh,
        This is an entry to a helium poetry writing contest. I tried to make all twenty but, I wasn’t able to make it in time. So many things to attend to yet so little time.

        Thank you for the kind words.

        @Star,
        Thank you! I learn from my poet friends online. They are linked in my blog roll.

          I like the last line too, “very powerful” as Deeptesh said.

          The smooth flow of words is like a bubbling, sparkling stream.

          Standing ovation!

            @Jena,

            Thanks! That’s the reason why I used that picture for the poem.

            Deeptesh is also a good writer. His poems are original.

              I have to calm down to get a handle on this. I was bracing for some biology lessons. And I found living, breathing language. What a surprise.

              Should have known better when you mentioned Jena Isle earlier this morning. It’s too juvenile I think to say cool. So I’d say instead: superb.

              A doctor with exquisite sensibilities. Pleasure to be here. Cool! There I go again. lol

                And I’ve completed the poll. A little something to pay back for the pleasure I’ve had in reading your creative work. Cheers.

                  Jan,

                  I can’t say thank you enough for voting me in the contest! That meant a lot to me. You know what will happen next! We’ll just keep paying forward!

                  I was just going to mention to Jena that I enjoyed reading your posts… The sex and blog article was fun to read!

                  @Jena,
                  Are you sure you are human? I think you are a super hero in the blogosphere! Thanks! I should name drop you more often.

                      This is pretty neat. I like the disconnected feel to the lines which are actually interdependent.

                      Good job!!! Keep writing!!!

                          Hello Susan,
                          I missed my reply to your comment. I was able to make it to the contest, come monday, your time, I will find out if I still have “it” to make top five.

                          Thank you for dropping by. I like your latest poem “It’s me.”

                          Ajey,
                          Experimenting on different ways to write poetry. I like using all figures of speech I can think of.

                          Thanks dude, rather, mate!

                          Jenn,
                          It would take a long time before I can write as good as you. I love your work and I should say, a bit envious how you make those poems.

                          Right now, my muse left me again and all I got are a few titles that I want to express in writing, but I seem to stare blankly at them.

                          I hope to be able to shake this off!!! ASAP…

                          Thank you for gracing this blog with your presence. I hope to see you soon.

                          Z

                            Seems that everyone commenting are all expert here and you are all experts here. Amazing views and everything.

                            As for the composition, the image you put in it really match the message you want to convey. It gives me the feeling I actually saw the conserved Roman road (no more Roman roads like that now that is in use) in South Italy…. how it was marked, how it was layered…and it’s a “very strange” feeling I got when I was looking at it.

                                ColorSpot,

                                Thank you for the kind words. I have been experimenting on my style in poetry and I want to be as flexible as I can in writing.

                                It seems that I can’t leave a comment in your post right now, I will do it later. Bad internet connection.
