Creature of the night

Longing fervent howl deep in a new moon night,
into the woods she braved an untrodden path.
A lonesome soul searches her heart tonight
through grimy, decaying, and smog filled tracks.

Lightning flashes were tricksters that struck,
these luminous folks of the misty cold.
Heavy breathing of a girl’s love – amuck,
his sweet heart’s call in the woods – she trolled.

At last laid upon her, patiently waiting,
no movement seen, claws protracted.
With ruby red eyes – fangs wide and gaping,
the thick furry coat this beast shrouded.

Upon eye contact she knew what she’d seen,
this creature of the night, temporarily astray.
His familiar shadow struggled within,
she laid by his side, ’til this spell cast away.
