Unafraid to love

Man: What does it take for you to believe
this honest love I offer you – undeceived.
A light in my heart reverberates a song,
only sopranos and tenors dare take on.
Woman: Lies! Lifted from your lips,
My father warned me about your colored aesthetics.
Try you must, to make me persuade,
my tired heart wont make a mistake.
Man: I did what you asked, sacrificed my soul,
this life is yours, still I give you more.
These wounds are deep, your words sliced through,
all I ever wanted is to spend forever with you.
Woman: One last sacrifice, one last request,
your heart on a silver platter – apparently fresh.
It is the only way that my father would oblige,
to marry a man whose heart beats tonight.
Man: If it’s the only way, for you to love me,
I shall fulfill that offering, so your father will see.
I, Prometheus, give my heart to him,
a token of this vow to you, his childish whim.

isa sa mga pinaka-paborito kong storya sa greek mythology. mas pinakganda niyo pa!
sino si Prometheus?
i can’t relate. hahaha
@Badong,
Salamat! Nahihiwagaan kasi ako sa healing powers nya. hehehe.
Z
@Reena,
Uhm… tanungin natin si Badong. he he he
Z
Hey Doc Zi. We missed you!
Hmmm, inlove?
-Wayne
@Wayne,
Hehehe. I am not sure.. more of afraid, than unafraid.
Z
Prometheus is also an icon of regeneration in medicine, diba Doc? Great poem, Z. I did not know of this story about Prometheus. What I know is the big bird and liver thing. (The image above)
This is a new type of writing for you Z, puede ka rin sa ganito, it came out good.
Yah Doc Z, You’re indeed a very versatile writer!
I guess Lyle Ham has done a good job with your theme.
Very Nice!
@Luke,
Yeah! That’s about the only thing I know also. hehehe. I actually found out that @badongskie reads about him, I still have to ask more info about this Titan. About the poem, I just made it up. an experiment. I thought it would be appropriate that he is in this poem.
Z
As the mother of a son, I have only four words for this:
“DITCH THE PSYCHO CHICK.”
if this poem is a song, its a revival. at first i thought you are making a script… next time, i wont be surprised if you’ll be writing for stage plays.
i agree with holly. perhaps men those days could do anything to please the father of the girl, but present times show that seldom do we have men like that….
i’m just wondering, do you have a problem with her father doc Z?…hmmm..
@Jena,
I just tried to make a conversation in poetry. Not really expecting for this to come out, but it did. hehehe.
Thanks!
Z
@Jhong,
I still think I have a lot to learn in writing. There are so many styles to choose from and so many ways to present them. To think that is is only the poetry part. Wait til you see the prose that a lot of great writers make.
Newbie lang ako.
Z
@Holly,
I love that line. My protagonist is just too stubborn. LOL
Z
@Petit,
Ah… true! That would have been a great experience, to write for a play. I hope that time comes soon! (Wishful thinking) hehehe
Z
Magpapatuka na lang ako sa ahas. Ditch the beatch… lols. Reads like balagtasan in English. Pero I like it, no worries.
natawa naman ako sa fb status ni jan about this poem, followed this link from there. maarte nga, at oa ng girl ha… if i were her, go na! easy to get talaga. hehehe…
very engaging, doc z!
mas funny pala side comment ni jan dito. hahahah… it is only in this poem that i read a softer side (sobrang cheesy!) of prometheus. back in college, i watched this political documentary entitled ‘prometheus bound’, since then i have associated this titan with the existing social ills, and the helplessness to do something about it for fear of getting punished by the powers that be. asus. (makibaka!) hahahahaha
@Jan,
Hehehe. Do you want a non poisonous snake to bite you? Pwede naman yun e. hehehe. Not as painful as to give your heart to the father of the one you love.
Z
@Fifi,
Thanks for following that link and I’m glad I didn’t disappoint you. he he he.
Z
@Fifi (for second comment)
Yeah, I thought Prometheus was also like that. I like his immortality and drew a different picture of him in this poem. Thanks again for dropping by.
Z
Isang makabagbag damdaming tula naman Doc Z. You have that gift to write in almost all aspects. *applause*
Do you want a non poisonous snake to bite you? Pwede naman yun e. hehehe. Not as painful as to give your heart to the father of the one you love. ——– grabe ka doc z. sobrang cheesy! di ko naman kinaya tong mga linyang ‘to. by the way, may rhythm yung poem mo, kaya siguro engaging. (i’m not an expert on poems).
@Madz,
Thanks! I am still learning in this art form.
Z
@Fifi,
I like rhythm it makes the poem more engaging. (toink!) I just repeated what you said.
This type of poetry suits me best an for the readers who love to read songs.
BTW, cheesy nga talaga ako. LOL

My favorite poem this week by far Zorlone, I found the whole Man: Woman: part unique to express who was speaking, I have found in my poetry, I had a hard time expressing “Spoken words” from a character in my poems.

[...] – Crying for no reason at all… but later, I found out why. Zorlone – “Unafraid to Love” – A dialogue between extraordinary characters about love, sacrifice, and [...]

I agree with Holly.
Here is my version:
Son, you don’t have to prove anything.
Extra, extra!
From exodians.wordpress.com blog,
Congratulations! for winning the Influential Official 2009 emerging blogs.
@Darbs,
Thank you so much for the support in the EIB 2009.
Yeah! Sometimes, loving someone blindly can push us to make irrational decisions.
Z
Hi Zorlone!
Your mythology-inspired poem is well done.
~Sherma
Sherma,
Thank you for the visit and the very nice compliment.
