Memoirs of a Guardian Angel

I have always been stuck with Zorlone. Geez! Of the 6 billion humans on Earth, why am I stuck with this reckless doctor?

It was the first Saturday of September. Raining. My human woke up early to work. He went to SM City to meet up with a representative for a medical mission. I mentioned it was raining, right? He didn’t use his umbrella! Last time it was raining, he rode a motorcyle. Didn’t even wear a helmet! Today he thought he can avoid getting wet. Well, he was already drenched in the rain when he reached the meeting place. Fortunately, the medrep was good enough to offer him a dry towel. He wanted to get sick, I guess.

Anyway, the patients at the barangay hall were already lined up when Zorlone got there.  If not for his charming personality, his patients wouldn’t have waited for him that long. There were fifty, sick souls.

Regardless of the condition, Zorlone saw each patient. He didn’t even use a mask when seeing infectious cases. Darn M.D. ! He thinks those two initials can protect him from diseases. He’s not so smart for a doctor. Hmm… I wonder if anyone has ever told him the healing powers of guardian angels. He’s abusing my presence! If not for the boss, I wouldn’t have to stick up to this kid of a man whenever he acquires those – germs. Reminiscent of his Tuberculosis patient at the clinic who coughed out blood. Of course, no mortal bacteria would be a match against my divine shield.

The medical mission was quick. Despite of his cocky attitude, the community seemed to like him. Hmpf! How were they able to stand his relaxed way of treating patients? That irks me.

Lyle, his friend was waiting for him at the annex of that mall. They were bound for Angeles, Pampanga. I waited with them for a bus. I am impatient, so I called a bus for them — for Z. No. I don’t like my human. I call him Z because I don’t think Zorlone is a real name and I am impatient, that’s why I summoned a bus.I took it upon myself to make sure that there wouldn’t be too much traffic on the expressway. His friend, Jena, was surprised he reached the bus terminal in record time. I even heard my human say, “we are here. Two handsome men waiting at the terminal.”Handsome? If my human could only see me, he’d go blind. He he he.

Jena instructed Z to wait. Her students would escort them to the venue.

Another recklessness! My human drank “sago” (a street drink). Doesn’t he care about the filth in that glass. Tsk tsk tsk! My Master will punish me if anything happens to Z. Yeah, you guessed it. I zapped those bacteria swimming in that drink. If you’d ask me, it’s such a stupid thing to do – zapping the drink. I should have just let him get sick.

All he did was offer his friend Lyle a mint candy. Hello??? Didn’t Z remember hearing Lyle was Muslim? In medical terms, NPO – nothing per orem.

Then a sweet, young lady approached them.. I am sure it was Dia. Followed by Aimii and Paul Marrion. I later found out that these kids were some of the Clinical Chemistry Bloggers. My cocky human thought it was a nice joke to pretend to ignore them. I put some sense into him and made him apologize for that cheeky remark.

Z thinks he was the popular one and engaged in a conversation with the students, trying to impress them with his memory skills. Arrrgh! Arrogant fool! He had to ask them more than once to re-learn their names and faces. We, Angels, don’t ever have to do that. Poor doctor.

There were more kids in the van and I was ROFL-ing when he failed to memorize their names before they finally reached the club house.

I intentionally made him unaware of the landmarks so that he couldn’t brag about seeing the Marquee Mall and the inscription of “Metrogate Angeles” at the entrance of the private subdivision.I felt more entertained when I heard his heart beat faster and missed a few beats upon seeing the kids in the club house. He had a hard time learning their names to add to my pleasure.It was almost 4pm when Jena Isle arrived. His first time to meet her. His mentor in blogging. To me, I think blogging is the best thing my human ever got engaged with. I just wish he’s not too arrogant with his work. I’d hit him several times just to put some sense into him.

He bragged to Jena about memorizing the names of all the kids.. In fairness, he did an excellent job,  by human standards of course, and not by our own omniscient meter.

No sooner than Jena got there, the van unloaded another set of passengers. Jan, Roy, and Roy’s kids . It was a reunion of bloggers. Meanwhile, Z was still trying to impress the new comers with his mediocre memory. There was a short introduction of guests. It was Erika Shayne who did a great job with emceeing. She knew how to break the ice. No thanks to Z!

Food was served. It was then when Novs called Z. He and his family were lost. Fortunately, Timz, knew his way in the City and volunteered to meet up with Novs at a gasoline station.

I didn’t know what was on my human’s mind when he insisted on going with Timz and Kretel to meet up with Novs. I know for sure that Timz knew his way. I met his guardian angel after all.

Novs was a tall soft spoken guy with his parents. They looked exhausted from their Subic tour. Z approached him talking about playing badminton with a local called Bibo. He is really addicted to that game. Novs was nice enough to accommodate his childish requests, but on a later date.

They got back to the club house where they saw Bonnie already talking to the “older” people. Bonnie was Novs friend who later became friends with my human.

Some of the Clinical  Chemistry bloggers were already singing. I heard Aiko with an angelic voice. Dia wasn’t bad too. Some of them were already getting ready to leave, so Z mingled with them, group by group.

Joy in the red and white stripes and Raychel, who was dressed in a black top. Apple with her curly hair was singing with Eugene, Jim, Eryll, Aiko, Myron and Gelhz. Most of the boys rounded up like preparing for a basketball game. There were Jayson, Jullius, and Mark Gideon. There was also a group of pink topped girls. They were all wearing pink of course. Diana, Lovely, Aubrey, and Ann Alexis.

Timz was with his best friend Kretel. There were also some late comers, Rodel, Kim Andrew, Ethel, and Jhim, who had helped in the preparations.

Like a politician running for election, Z also managed to mingle with Jena’s musketeers; Nikes and RRichard minus Arvie. I still can’t believe where he finds the energy to do such things! Urgh!

I wondered where Nera and Lindsey were. I didn’t see them at all. Anyway, after another meal, Z, Lyle, Roy, and Roy’s kids went swimming in the rain. My human really wants to get sick! I think he felt my repulsion with his decision, he was the first one who left the pool. Lyle and Roy followed suit.

Bonnie wanted to explore the City. Angeles was known for its night life. Hmpf! Us Angels don’t need to sleep.
I tried to influence my human not to stay up late, but Noooo… He wanted to be Mr. Congeniality and had to stay up late with them. Tsk tsk tsk!

They went to a place called Club Bossa. There was noise and not singing in there. Not my place.  I had to complain, but only to myself. Grrr! I gave Jena a headache, so that they would come to their senses and leave  already. Z and Lyle went to the dance floor and mingled with the locals! WT# not the right thing to do. I was very disappointed with my human.

They didn’t even dance well. He he he. They think they can dance. We Angels walk, and humans would think we were dancing.It was not enough for them to stay in that horrid place, this group had to go singing – atrocious! At least, Roy was able to carry a tune. I wanted to call it a night for my human, but even with his hoarse voice, he sung his heart out. I could have willed that without lifting a finger.

It was almost 3am when Lyle, Bonnie, and my human checked in a hotel. All with the generosity of Jena. My human gladly took advantage of that. Jan stayed with Roy.

My reckless human really disappointed me. He woke up thirty minutes later than the supposed time. He got up, got dressed and left after a quick breakfast. It was a Sunday but he had to be at work somewhere in Quezon City.

I never fully understood why Z abuses himself. All for friendship and camaraderie? Humans are so, unpredictable. A doctor, yet reckless. My Big Boss upstairs really gave me a punishment by this human I was tasked to take care of.

I better go back to Z, now. He can’t survive a full minute without me. You asked if it’s fulfilling? Nah! If you were in my shoes, you’d push him off a cliff. But other humans need him. He still has to save more lives.

I have to stand by him. My human.

    This was the idea that has been playing in my mind since Sunday. I was only able to write it today.

    Thank you Jena for everything!

    Z

  4. Jena Isle says:

    You’re welcome Doc Z. It has been a pleasure.

  5. LOL – your Guardian Angel needs to lighten up and stop being such a martyr. (And maybe you should listen to him now and then – be a tiny bit more careful of your own health?) But I’m very glad he takes care of you and zaps all those nasty germs, so you can heal the sick and have a bit of fun, yourself!

  6. jan geronimo says:

    Your guardian angel is a severe task master. If I were you, I’d give him the slip. lols.

    Jen is right. This is a unique angle. See what ample down time does to the imagination? Gives us more time to think through our post, right? Nice touches, Doc Z. :)

  7. Reena says:

    hahaha, wala bang video nung dancing niyo? :D im glad you guys had fun.

  8. Zorlone says:

    @Holly,

    The Guardian Angel in the story isn’t the conventional one. hehehe. She has a lot of tricks, huh?

    @Jan,

    Yep… my Angel is a she. ;) Now you know why she’s like that, huh?

    Z

  9. reyjr says:

    All our angels must be friends! lol.

  10. My reckless human really disappointed me. He woke up thirty minutes later than the supposed time. He got up, got dressed and left after a quick breakfast. It was a Sunday but he had to be at work somewhere in Quezon City. <– You mean your Angel woke you up after she also got pissed on our "orchestra".

  11. Jena Isle says:

    And pray Doc Z, how it would be if the Angel is a “he?” Just curious…lols

  16. Zorlone says:

    @Reyjr,

    I hope so. And no fighting among them. he he he.

    @Jena,

    With that kind of attitude, a male version of a Guardian Angel
    would probably more explosive.

    @Madz,

    Oo nga e! Ang kulit ng Guardian Angel ano? he he he. I hope you were entertained with the story.

    Sick packs, not six. LOL

    @Yatot,

    Of course this Guardian Angel’s body is perfect. No disproportional part at all.

    @Lindsey,

    I’m sorry to hear that. I do hope you are feeling much better.
    Thanks!

    I can’t name my Guardian Angel. he he he. Despite of her snarky comments, she prefers to be anonymous.

    You are welcome. It was Timz who told me that you were BFFs, so I made it a point that you were with him in the story.

    Nah, I think your eardrums were saved from my singing prowess.
