Missing Christmas

Almost two hours left
before Christmas this year.
I couldn’t believe that
I almost missed the fun and cheers.
Of friends and loved ones
who shall gather around.
This decorated Christmas tree
with twinkling lights in the foreground.

A sudden shift of direction
that favored this prolonged stay.
I couldn’t wish for anything else,
maybe just for my sister – this day.
Three years ago we were four,
but now we are three
come next year, two souls in this house
it might never be complete.

At a congested church
where we heard this midnight mass
I saw a longing in my parents eyes
because of this upcoming task.
A new world awaits for me
in a far flung place
This stepping stone, this dream
that I sought in much haste.

When the clock strikes twelve
late this hour tonight
Christmas greetings and songs
would burst out in delight.
The world would celebrate
yet a blessed Christmas day
and our family would host a virtual dinner
my parents, my sister and I  – today.

Oh she is and we are always in touch via the internet. Being far from home has its toll on an overseas worker like herself and I would be like that in a few more days… leaving my parents at home. Well, I guess they can farm all they want and my dad would become a full time Mafia poker player. LOL

  16. Your poem made me reflect as this is the first time I spent the holiday season away from family members. Even though you can be in touch online, it is still different being together in person.

All the best to your new adventure next year and hopefully through your blog, we will all still be able to keep in touch.

Hugs and Happy New Year Lorenzo!

  19. Zorlone says:

    Sire,

I think it’s my fault in wording the lines differently, my sister works abroad and so will I in a few weeks leaving my parents at home.

The times when we used to spend Christmas together were gone and we will be celebrating it through cyberspace.

    Cheers to the New Year!

    Janette,

I reflected on this poem too and I thought of the kind of families we have here in our country, there is always a relative who works abroad and spend so much time away. But like romantic I am always hoping that they will all come back and be together again with their loved ones.

    Here’s to a New Year!

    Z
