Fire Stars and Tiger Year
01.01.10

Celebration fireworks lit the sky,
challenging the brightness of stars.
In a clear night,
where the full festival moon laughs,
at the celebration below.
The air is thick with the memories,
of a year that was shed like snakeskin.
A trail of smoke is left,
from what was the brilliance,
of the fire festival above.
The power lines obscured the view,
of a fire child eager to witness,
the parade of lights.
While the skyline,
of low level apartments and houses,
of the middle class,
hid the full view,
of the rare dance,
of this midnight fire.
Explosions kept the bad luck away,
from the coming of a new decade.
As the changing of the numbers,
of this Roman year,
announce the dawn of the Chinese tiger.
An hour after midnight,
the air thinned from the smoke,
of reflections that foretold,
the vision of the coming year,
and gained wisdom from one that left.
A silent knock from a visitor,
proclaimed the gifts that lay ahead,
will only be opened,
when the rooster announces,
the coming of the sun.

“The air is thick with the memories,
You’re about to make new memories in a far away strange land. Well and good. But reserve something for the old memories, too.
All the best, Doc Z.
of a year that was shed like snakeskin.” Thick, but not pregnant?
Jan,
I think I liked that line so much that I unconsciously used it again. LOL.
Thank you and there will still be more memories to make this year.

Happy New Year Lorenzo!
I now look forward to the Chinese New Year (tikoy mode).
All the best to your upcoming trip.

Happy New Year Doc Z, the poem vividly described what happened here too..lol…blazing and fiery.
You’ve made many lives happy (including mine)by your generous thoughts and gestures and even just by being around.
God bless you on a new chapter of your life. We’ll surely miss you, if you don’t keep in touch….lol
Jena,
I will miss all of you too and the fast internet connection LOL.
Thank you for being a huge part of my writing career and may we both be blessed with more books to publish.

Beautiful! I especially liked, “a year that was shed like snakeskin.” That’s kind of how it feels, sometimes. Even to the tattered bits still clinging on, stubbornly, like snakeskin.
Holly,
I had second thoughts with that word, but I took a chance and to be frank, I am not surprised that you liked that line.
Like the lines from Avatar, “I see you.”

Hi Doc Z,
As always, your poem is descriptive and reflecting of what’s happening now. Sorry, I haven’t visited in so long.
I hope that your Christmas celebration was a blast. Best wishes to you this year 2010.
Tasha
Hi Tasha,
There is no need to be sorry for missing a few blog posts or for not being able to blog hop, I could say the same for myself. I couldn’t even find time to reply to the comments of my own blogs. LOL.
But, this year, I am optimistic to find to find time for myself and a good quality time is to stay online and keep in touch with my friends.
Cheers and may we receive insurmountable blessings this year!
Good luck with your novel.
