The hidden pass of the seven gates,
were betrayed by an envious Maeglin.
A hidden terrifying force – irate,
consisted of orcs, dragons, and iron machines.

This treacherous surprise attack,
occurred at the Gates of the Summer festival.
Caught my Elven brothers unaware and slack,
this massacre from our constant rivals.

Maeglin suffered the fate of his father,
as I, Tuor, threw him into a precipice.
A secret way was contrived by Idril, my lover,
and painfully left this hidden land in pieces.

Gondolin fell to Morgoth’s dark army,
along with thousands of my blood brothers,
The city fell because of love, lust and the power hungry,
no call to counter strike was uttered.

This poem was inspired by the fall of Gondolin.
